Expanding the way America sees style at Walmart
Walmart has long been known for low prices, across apparel, home and beauty. But where the retailer wins in savings, it historically falters in quality perceptions.
What many customers don’t realize is that Walmart has been investing in truly stylish private brands and inventory.
As economic uncertainty draws more shoppers into stores, Walmart had an opportunity with new and established shoppers alike to build awareness and trust in their surprising array of quality style offerings.
As creative and strategic partners, we were challenged with the question: How can America’s most ubiquitous, value-driven retailer become a coveted style destination?
SYLVAIN embarked on an impactful partnership with Walmart to expand the perception of its style offerings, and build cultural relevance and trust.
As we developed our work across the retailer’s style business, an overarching strategic intent guided us: ensuring we leveraged Walmart’s greatest equity—its understanding of customers’ real lives. While competitors struggled to manufacture the intersection of everyday empathy and style inspiration, Walmart was uniquely poised to seize it. The task was simple: show how real people, with their own styles, are inspired by what they find at Walmart.
“Find the things you love” takes a first-of-its-kind approach to defining style at Walmart: centering real people, not runways.
That’s what the Fall FY25 cross-category style campaign, “Find the things you love,” accomplishes. It shows audiences that Walmart is a place for their wants, not just their needs. To do this, we leveraged the power of the “human algorithm”—featuring real people and their passions. From a professional teenage bull rider in Oregon, to the CEO of Black Girl Gamers, to a BMX rider, we showed how Walmart’s customers may be as varied as the items on their shelves. Yet they all make their finds their own.
“Find the things you love” was part of a hugely successful, multi-pronged effort to transform Style perceptions of Walmart. Praise for Walmart’s Style efforts have abounded, from organic customer conversation on social media, to coverage in prestigious industry outlets such as Business of Fashion and Women’s Wear Daily. This is supported by commercial growth across its fashion, home, and beauty business segments—a clear indicator of the increasing resonance of Walmart Style.
